Hi. My father has just retired at 65 with around £80k savings and pension just about enough to live off. He has been advised by his friendly HSBC advisor to invest £70k in a Standard Life capital investment bond with 75% in a "distribution" fund and 25% in a "property" fund. Thanks all for the advice. "Guaranteed" was in inverted commas as I didn't really mean absolutely so....just more predictable than Premium Bonds. I think I've managed to stop him going to the bank at least....I'll take some time to look through the advice given and hopefully we can get his money somewhere decent. Many thanks again.
