I am thinking about buying a Tempur millenium pillow, in the hope that it might help ease the pain in my neck, and give me a good nights sleep. Has anyone out there tried one, would welcome any comments as they are quite expensive.

Lizzo, I have had stiff/sore/bad neck/shoulders for years and bought a Tempur pillow last year. The man in the shop was v nice and helped me choose from all the different types. I slept on it for 3 nights and took it back having had the most painful 3 nights of my life. They didn't want to take it back but I just asked them if they really wanted me to rubbish them in conversation with all my friends since it was so painful so they refunded the money. BUT I have a friend who has one and swears by it and (she lives near Norwich) she got hers from a place which lends them out to prospective buyers (she put a couple of pillowcases on it, but of course it's no worse than a hotel pillow). See if you can find somewhere which lends them out to prospective buyers to try ?
. And then I got a cheap similar 'shaped' one from Argos for about £15.oo and now sleep on that and am finding it fine. Perhaps I should have persevered with the Tempur one but not sure I could stand any more painful nights !
Good luck !0 -
I used to use the tempur pillow but didnt find it gave me any comfort or support.
I use a buckwheat pillow. You can remove the buckwheat so that its just the right firmness. It feels cool in the summer and room temperature in the winter.
I use it because I have neck problems and I can push it into the crook of my neck when i lie down so that my neck is supported. It takes a bit of getting used to as it makes a crinkle noise when you move, but thats a small price to pay!
Its like this one: http://www.woodspirits.co.uk/Product_List.asp?CatID=19
Probably can get it cheaper somewhere else though.Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
I've had a Tempur pillow for several years and the painful neck I used to have is a thing of the past. BUT, you really have to be sure that the one you buy is not too wide for the area between the neck and the end of your shoulder (if you know what I mean).
I have had two different types and I find the best ne for me is the Tempur Classic. Here's their website so you can see what they sell:-

Personally, I don't like the fake ones, but everybody's different and as you say, the Tempur ones are expensiveI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I was in Ikea, Ashton, the other day and noticed that they are doing 'ergonomic' pillows (start at about £6) which are shaped and supposed to give better support. This sort of thing might be worth trying first.0

I bought 2 from tesco direct about £20 i think in january & we think they are superb. There the ones which are funny shaped, got a ridge that rests on your neck.if i had known then what i know now0

I managed to persuade O/H to try one instead of his three pillows  He found it odd at first (low) but after a few days he realised his neck was so much better. I got it from Aldi for £10 :T
I used to suffer a lot with back/neck pain ( no medical reason ) until I started to use only one pillow. It can be strange at first but it is worth persevering (sp)
Good luck

Hi,
I bought an original queen medium pillow after many suggestions on an ealrier thread.
I did find it took a while to adjust to it, but it was worth it in the end and find sleeping without it difficult.
At that time hubby bought a large. We also had a silent nite pillow top bed then.
when we moved house we invested in a memory foam bed form dreams - this changed everything - i love my bed and my medium pillow woorks well with it but hubby's pillow was to high as the mattress had more give.
i unfortunately listened to hubby and washed my pillow and that is the end of that.
I was looking to buy another cos I just cannot sleep peacefully and have come across this

I thought I would share it with thise interested as they are the cheapest I have found.
However, you can always ask back in action to price match - they also give u £5 further off the price a nd if u qualify then go the vat excl option.
incidentally how do you qualify for a back problem - I know lots of people who have back probs in the office but dont go to a doctor.
i myself have invested in the memory foam bed , tempur pillows, osim back massager to give myslef relief from back strain. I had to see an osteopath for five months and decided to go this route instead of the GP painkillers and trips to the osteopath.A0 -
Just to reiterate what I have said on this site before - do be careful with Tempur pillows, or any other pillows which mould to your shape, if you have problems turning in bed at night. DH has a neurological disease which means that he doesn't have the strength to turn over at night. He found that he could not breathe once he had sunk into the Tempur, and it could have been a real danger!!! I took it straight back and got a refund, despite fierce notices in the store to the contrary, on the basis that it simply was/is not fit for purpose!!!!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
