I just had 3 quotes to clean my carpets. The average is £180.
I was thinking of using this to purchase a carpet cleaner or washer so I can do it more than once.
Any suggestions of good carpet cleaners?
thanks for reading.

Rug Doctor, if you can afford one. If you're only going to use it once a year, hire.
Otherwise anything made by Numatic.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

do you rate VAX?"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
do you rate VAX?
As far as I know, a standard VAX does not have a brush. Rug Doctors have a brush in the front that vibrates left and right which opens up the fibres to right right inside the carpet. Rug Doctor also delivers the water hot straight to the carpet, assuming you start with hot water and under pressure.
HSS Hydromist is another good product. Look for 'hot water soil extraction' and use hot water and the correctdetergent. Avoid anything using solvents and offered by franchises.

£180 seems very steep was it franchise carpet cleaners using chemdry?
Must be a huge house?
For a average 3 bedroom house (living room, hall, stairs landing and 3 bedrooms) would be about £50-60 possibly less depending on condition)
If I was you I wouldn't bother with buying the cheap carpet machines not worth it And just get your carpets professionally done once a year or once every 6 months, usually won't have to do the whole house every year as only a few rooms in every house are heavily used so MIGHT only cost £30 a year after that
IMO as well stay away from chemdry carpet cleaners! More expensive and and don't tend to do as good a job.
Thanks

i have checked with a few companies. we are in london. its coming in at £20-25 for a double room (4 of them), hallway and landing £21-£25, single room £15 (2 of them) and £1-2 per step (22 of them).
Thinking of renting the Rug Doctor, comes in around £50 or buying the Vax V-124A Dual V Upholstery and Carpet Cleaner. Reduced from £350 to £200 and then doing a regular clean."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -

I guess they might be slightly more expensive in London but still seems like your getting ripped off by those prices especially for stairs and hallway and landing £40-£60 for them alone is a big time rip off. 22 steps amd hallway might be 10-25mins work depending on how bad they are so up to £60 for that alone is rediculus IMO.
Depending on the size of the room and the amount of furniture that needs moving the rest seems relatively reasonable considering it's London
In Nottingham without seeing it you would probably be looking at about £80 For what you have described via hot water extraction method.
The more there is to do the cheaper each rooms should become but I guess they just have flat rates for room or per sq meter and are sticking too it
Think I should start marketing our carpet cleaning section of our business in London if that's the prices they are charging! For £180 that would pay for our travel time as well! HahaDebt

remember would you put low price before quality only the best carpet cleaners are trained by the NCCA like us0 -
I have a VAX carpet cleaner - not one of the newest ones by any means but it does a brilliant job. Loaned to a couple of friends at times and they were astonished at just how dirty their carpets were.
I only have a single storey home with no stairs to do, so it's not that hard, and doing it once a year it's not too onerous. However, if you have stairs and several rooms and do decide to hire then I'd recommend paying a bit extra and choosing the 48 hour option. From memory, those Rug Doctor machines are good but it's a pretty heavy job to do a whole house in a day.0 -
DO NOT touch the Rug Doctors they are awful things - leave so much residue in your carpets!
Have a look at the Bissell Carpet Cleaners, i have the Bissell quickwash which i bought from them reconditioned and lots of friends have borrowed it and gone on to buy one themselves, cannot rate them highly enough.A home is not a home ..... without a dog0
