I want to buy a car cover?

Hello!

I need to buy a car cover for my peugoet estate car as the sunroof is leaking & I cant afford to repair it at the moment. Car footwell is filling with water!

I've had a look on ebay, but the postage is quite steep on them.

Anyone know anywhere where I can get a cheap one? Doesnt need to be anything posh!

Thank you. ;)

i got my tyvec one from halfords

make sure the cover is breathable...that means it lets moisture out but not in, non breathable ones may cause blisters and all kind of paint problems
  • Argos do one but not sure if this is the sort of price you are looking for

740/8502 £14.99 - have 2 other more expensive ones too.

Failing that, get a cheap Tarpualin from the Market etc and tie some elastic/string etc through the eyelets to attach to the car.

Have seen large tarpualins for about £4.

Or go to local Furniture store and get a large sheet of polythene from their items which they usually throw away. Or try a polythethe decorating sheet, these are usually quite reasonable from homebase etc.

Can you put something inside the car that covers the sunroof and attach with duck tape which will stop some of the water coming in?

Use a sealant, like you get for bathroom and windows - can get it in clear which might help.

Final advise, go to a scrapyard to see if they have any sunroofs going spare from a crashed car.

    Thankyou. Will check out Halfords.

My car is kind of old and knackered so paint work is not really too much of a priority.

  • Thanks Moon~Shadow. The Argos one might do the job. Trouble is being an estate I was a bit worried if it would fit over the boot area ok?

I've already tried putting sealant around the sunroof & windscreen but Im still getting water in somewhere?

I'm not definate it is the sunroof? I never see water dripping anywhere, but it is accumulacting in the footwell.

It could be coming in through the door seals? It weird because I went through a car wash but there was no obvious leak??

I know I need to get it fixed, but am totally broke at the moment.

Will try some tape as well. I always get parts from scrappers where possible.

I did think of geting a cheap tarp, but thought it might be better to get something a bit fitted so it wont be blown off and will be easier to take off every day?

    Thanks for your help.

if its a banger ...try markets and cheap shops for a tarpaulin , they start at about £4 and you could use bungee straps on each corner hooked onto the wheel or wheel arch

id be inclined to clean the sunroof up and run some polyureathane sealer around it....using a cover is hassle
  • Steveo is polyureathane sealer different from sillicon sealant? If yes, do they sell that at most DIY places?

I did clean around the sun roof and put clear sillicon sealant around it didn't seem to make any difference. I agree a cover is hassle.

yes polyurethane sealer is what car makers use to seal all the body joins etc

you may well find some at a diy or a motorist store...if not https://www.frost.co.uk sell it, part number s110

why dont you spend a few hrs trying to see where it leaks....if its a glass slide in tilt it could be leaking between the glass and the seal..or the seal and the roof, or blocked drain tubes...there should be a tube in each corner for water to drain away...poke a old bicycle cable or stiff wire to clear it
