If the voucher i'm using is for a greater amount that the cost of the iten i'm buying do I loose the surplus?

Yes. And No.......

When you mean voucher, do you mean the Tesco voucher or the converted deals voucher??

You will lose the difference if its been converted - ie: £200 MFI vouchers, but only a £190 bath, you will lose the £10.

But if you have a £50 Tesco voucher and only want to spend £40 of that (to £160 worth of deals) then you can and the "change" will be credited back to your account for the next mailing.

I have a £4.50 voucher a £2.50 voucher and 2 £6.00 vouchers and want to buy a £7.50 deal voucher so I think it's going to be the latter

I did this the other day, the surplus actually gets credited back to your Tesco account.
