£25/m isn;t that great either. PAYG phone costs next to nothing, mobile internet can be had for £10/m on at least two mobile operators). Is broadband an ESSENTIAL expense - I would bvalue insurance more, especail;ly if there are no doubt other places that internet can be had?0

I'm confused about your incomings, my bursary is £550 a month and I haven't any children, I think its about £750 for those with a child how come your income is so low? are you getting everything you should be getting?

Personally I would say that the internet is a pretty essential tool for any student - I accept there are free places to use this but with a young child it's probably not easy for the OP to access these without having to pay childcare, which would wipe out the savings.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I would agree that broadband is pretty essential for any student it is all very well going elsewhere to use the internet when you just have to think of yourself quite another when the only time that you have to study, use the internet for research etc is in the evening with a young child who needs to be asleep in bed not dragged about internet hotspots1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

But the OP doesn't have broadband (not internet, broadband), so your comments about it being essential don't quite ring true do they? If using your assumptions, they have a smartphone, then my point is that this is over-priced.
If you are seriously suggesting that this phone contract is there to provide internet access for 'research' (although I'm not sure quite how much serious research I would want to do on a phone, and aside from reading suggested texts, which can be got from elsewhere with planning, what research needs to be done for nursing - I'd be interested in finding out) and a replacement for landline, then as I say they are cheaper ways of getting it than £25/m and the rest could be put to better use. No-one has suggested that they drag their child around hot-spots so try not to be so emotive.
It is clear that the the OP CANNOT afford all their out-goings so ALL of them are up for review. . I have suggested that one cost is either too high or could be going somewhere else for the greatest overall good.0
