    Now what?

Send 'em an email saying "we need to check your security, please log in to your playpal account and send money to us".

    Only joking (of course!)

Congrats on the 1 million. How long does it take to queue the requests?

How about 2 million and if you achieve that double it to 4 million. Keeps the targets reasonable.

Maybe it also time to bring back the Carol Vorderman petition?

Yeah, I think that 2millions should be the next target. That is more realistic than 10mil. Congratulations btw.

I'm not sure how you could verify the amounts people might claim to have saved but we're a fairly honest bunch I like to hope, so how about each campaign or offer you allow subsribers to enter a total amount that they saved or regained by doing what this site said to do. The total for each campaign could be viewed separately or the whole lot could be totalled up so we can see the £bns saved by MSE subscribers.
    'nuff numbers for you?

Popshed - that's a good idea. on the flylady site (a cleaning/decluttering site) they often encourage people to post things like the weight of clutter thrown away or the amount of coins found down the back of the sofa, etc. They then have a running total on the homepage e.g. '700,904 pounds (of clutter) flung since January 3rd, 2007!'

I thought some more about this. I see Martin is a little depressed at hitting this target, I can understand that.

I wonder if he has considered standing for election?

    International affiliate sites.

Although you'd have to have somebody as dedicated as yourself in each participating princiipality to make it work, and obviously similar people knowledgable about local laws and taxes and stuff like that.

Admittedly a long shot, but it's the only way I could think of increasing subscribers beyond the inevitable ceiling which will be hit in this country.

EDIT: Actually, off the back of that ludicrous suggestion, how about promoting the site towards foreign visitors to the UK so we can tell them how to avoid getting ripped off when visiting the UK. The emails sent to those overseas subscribers would probably have to be stripped down to only contain information pertinent to tourists so some of the larger campaigns like banking charges and credit cards wouldn't be applicable. But it might actually provide an 'in' towards getting the site internationalised.

I'm surprised you can sustain an email list of that size.

I think the future is in feeds. Now that more and more people are using IE7 that has it built in, people are slowly starting to use them. It's where I get most my news. The reason I knew this blog post had been made was because it appeared in my reading list.

In addition to having a weekly email, it would be nice to have a blog-style page on the site that has daily updates. If you look at Techcrunch, he has an orange Feedburner box at the top-right showing that he has 290,000 subscribers to his feed. He has a techie audience which is why it's so high, but like I said, I think a lot more people will be using them soon.
