thinking of going temporary

Hi,

I have got to the stage now where I am so sick of my job, I am just thinking of quitting and getting a temp contract.

My field is Commercial Analyst/Accounts.

What I wanted to know is, normally, if you go for a temp job, do they expect you to start immediately?

I.E. is it better for me to just quit my job so that I am available for a temp job when it comes up?

Or, would some be ok with my current 1 month notice period?

Why are you sick of your job, is there anything you can work on to improve your situation at your current employers?
Do you have back up savings incase you can't find any temp work?
Can you take some holiday to give yourself a break before you hand in your notice?

Temps and contractors are typically needed fairly quickly and a months notice can be a real put off but there are some organisations that are better at planning and are willing to wait for people.

No we've been round the houses for months now.

Basically I took a job after being made redundant for a lot less money than it should be, but I wanted to work so I took it.

I've been here 2 years now and so many promises have been made and broken. For example, Pro,mises of paying for my studies, promises of having a payrise, all promised and agreed verbally on many occasions and constantly broken. No career progression possible at all, no development. So I can either carry on with all of this, or I can do something about it.

My holiday period starts again next week for the year, so I can take some holiday then. Savings I don't have much. Enough to live on for 2-3 months.

I'm just thinking if I do hand my notice in, I will be under a lot more pressure to find work and probably get one quicker than now when I have the luxury of not "having" to change.

does it look bad on the cv if you resign?

I only advise caution because I was sick of my job, handed in my notice confident I would find another job and it took me 4 months to find employment.

I did a bit of temp work but there wasn't much available it seemed and I had to live off some credit cards which I'm still paying back.

Just think of the worst scenario and perhaps really look for another job now, even if you have to use your holiday or some sick days to go for interviews.

haha, being off sick for a day, morning or afternoon (my company allows 12 sick days a year - very generous of them!)
