anyone found employment using job search sites?

Has anyone found employment using job search websites & could you recommend me some good ones.

From my experience using some of these sites that certain jobs are not real and 99% of them don’t even give responses (mainly reed/directgov). I pretty sure it’s not down to my written applications or cv; seen when applying for jobs directly on large plc companies own sites I always get a response positive or negative; even a chance for an interview. Does anyone else have this problem too.

Small to medium sized firms employed around 60% of all jobs in the private sector, where do you find these jobs.

Thanks in advance

I've found two full time jobs online and one temp job online.

It must be said though, I've had no luck with most of the others that I've put in for and the ones mentioned above I only heard back from because I had experience in that area (car parking). These days you have to be experienced just to be a cleaner so it's little wonder you hear back from so few employers these days.

I've now saved the search URLs for the job sites in my bookmarks but I have them set to direct employers only as I don't give agencies the time of day now.

Plenty of jobs via Monster and JobServe. Some direct (ie the job I applied for) but more from agents picking up my CV and discussing other roles

I got my current job from a job search site, so yes they do work sometimes.
  • Yes they do work but not necessarily through applying for a job you see on there. If you upload your details and CV and re upload every few days then agencies will find you as they have access to the CV database.

I always use Jobsite and the majority of calls I get are from agents who have found me on there.

Yep was made redundant recently. I signed up for 'Indeed' email alerts. Saw a job that I hadn't spotted anywhere else. Applied - interviewed - got job - all within the space of a month!

I also recommend Indeed, they search all the sites saving you a lot of hassle, Monster has been the worst in my experience, I set it up for a 10 mile radius and if it has nothing if bombards you with rubbish from the army or national jobs.

Monster? Been hacked twice, would never touch them.

Londonjobs which is just a regionally zoned version of Jobsite linked to the Evening Standard, got me a good job before the crash. No use to you if you're outside London but I suppose you can't compare now to pre-2008 when I was getting an interview per fortnight for nearly five months.

Jobsite proper has got me an interview but no luck yet, it takes more time and you have to regularly recheck the online version of your CV so they have you listed as a UK citizen on their internal cover page - this wrong assumption that I needed a permit was one reason why I had tumbleweeds rolling through my profile.

As above - applied for one job, agency got hold of my CV and put me forward to interview for another.
Local newspaper jobs websites are a good bet too.

Found out something interesting the other day. Applying via Pertemps website gets put into a central Pertemps system it them takes a few days to filter back to the right office  Much better giving them a ring and emailing direct to their actual office.
Not sure if this is the same for all national agencies of if Pertemps are a bit odd?
