Need Advice Please Complaint With RBS

Had a complaint with RBS, basically I was in a repayment programme and kept my side of the bargain, was paying the arrears and making the reg payments still (£30 a month to clear arrears and £223 usual loan repayment)

Sadly RBS set up a £233 Standing Order and £233 D/D.

As you can guess both went out leaving me with no money, although they corrected the error the day after (couldn't do it the same day they said) this left me with no money in my account and thus couldn't get to work that day.

Had to take this as UNPAID leave.

I made a complaint (early FEB!!) had update letters saying looking into it etc etc.

This morning had a 'compensation IBP' paid into my account for £30, without asking me to accept this offer.

Clearly I'm out of pocket as missed a full day at work and would of got paid more than that!

I want more, what should I do?

    Hi Leon

It's not entirely clear whether you actually still bank with RBS - if this is the case then we would recommend moving your income to a bank you owe no debt to. Read MSE's own guide for more on this:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/setting-off

In terms of your complaint, it is best made in writing, clearly labelled as a complaint (as the bank may otherwise not treat it as one unless you make this explicitly clear). Keep it to a single page if you can - concise and clear is the way to go; stick to the bare facts.

The bank must deal with your complaint within 8 weeks. If they fail to reply or their reply does not satisfy you, you can then escalate the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The FOS can order any redress or compensation that they deem appropriate under the individual circumstances.

Banks should always make copies of their full complaints procedure available to you on request.
We work as money advisers for National Debtline and have specific permission from MSE to post to try to help those in debt. • Still with RBS, however have (as of this month) changed my 'wages' about account to another unlinked bank.

The thought of 'off-setting' annoys me....... :-/
