My car! I'm so annoyed...

Hi guys, I've had loads of support on here and could really do with a bit more if you dont mind.

I'm totally gutted. Some idiot forgot to put his handbrake on and his car rolled down the street and hit mine that was parked up as usual. Its completely smashed the front end of my car. I love my car- its not worth much but has been totally reliable and never let me down over the 3 years I've owned it. I'm so worried they are gonna write it off, and I'm going to get vertually nothing for my car. I have zero savings as I'm paying every penny on debt so won't be able to put towards a new one (and as I'm a DFW I don't want more debt!). Im stressing that I'm going to have to drive an old banger that is going to be nowhere near as reliable as mine. I've only just paid for an MOT, tax and insurance on it as well- and there is a full tank of petrol..all money down the drain :(

To top it all off I work as a mobile therapist and had a full diary for today, but the hire car company can't get me a car until 3pm this afternoon, so can't get to any of my bookings, so am going to lose nearly £100 in earnings. It seems so unfair when I haven't done anything wrong, but yet I'm the one who is suffering. The guy that crashed into me is an OAP and said it doesnt matter if he doesn't have his car for a bit as he has nowhere to go.. I'm soooo angry!!!

Presumably the person who's car hit you has 3rd party insurance?
So ultimately they'll be paying for any repairs etc rather than you.
  • Hi! What a horrible morning you are having. Glad you weren't in the car when it happened! I don't really know the ins and outs of insurance pay-outs after an accident but it might be worth checking if you can reclaim on the fuel etc. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly with some proper advice.

In the mean time chin up!

  • Well, I would hope that you're going to make sure that your insurance claim covers your loss of earnings and the full tank of petrol - it's his insurance that will have to pay out for you.
I know not much at all about cars but sometimes cars that insurers write off can actually be fixed, although I think it's a hassle for insurance etc. in the future. Have you spoken to your insurers? What have they recommended? I assume you have all of his details.
