Credit File/Report Pickle!

Hi Everyone,
I wondered if anyone might know a bit about Credit Reports and how they work?

I don't want to give away too many personal details obviously so I'm going to try not to. Basically, I have been monitoring my Credit File (with Experian) for a while as I have been expecting certain old nasties to 'fall off' and wanted to make sure it was looking better after several years of hard debt reducing.

My problem is that since I moved house last September it's all gone a bit wrong because the Credit Reference agencies all seem to find my address complicated...and it is!
Basically I live in a flat in a big house within a school (boarding). The big house goes by two different names which is confusing enough and the address uses one of those names followed by the school name, main road its on, town, county, postcode. However, the flat I live in also has a number of its own to uniquely identify it, then the house name, school name etc...

When I moved in I didn't really realise this would be an issue and when I changed address on my credit card, bank etc I used the address which came up easily when I input the postcode and the online look up thing checks it out (house name, school name, town, postcode). This is fine and I receive my post fine and the flat number never appears on any royal mail address selector.

We also duly filled in electoral roll form when we moved in. I phoned the county council a while back to check we were on the electoral roll and they said we were but with the flat number. However the flat number they had was different from the one we have given by the school.

All of this doesn't really matter except I'm now having problems registering with Noddle and CallCredit to get accurate files because (I think) they don't understand my address and frankly I've no idea which version of the address to use when registering.

I don't care too much about the not being able to check my file, although that would be handy. But I've also recently been turned down for credit and although not entirely unexpected as I'm still rebuilding my credit score, I wonder if the address confusion is a problem when applying for credit.

So to my questions (finally):rotfl:are: does anyone know if this confusion with my address is likely an issue for potential lenders or is it just credit reference agencies registration process that is confused? Also, should I perhaps go with the address the electoral roll have registered and change all my bank, credit card addresses to match that one? Or go back to electoral roll and ask them to change to the flat number we were given by the school.

I'm so sorry if this is confusing - I feel utterly frustrated by it and am probably not explaining well.
If after all that, anyone can help, I'd be SO grateful
