Yes. the British sugar made from beet is the one with the red tractor and called 'Silver spoon'.
Living in E.Anglia and seeing the beet pulled from the field, loaded onto the lorries and carried away makes me buy this one! (Even though the roads get horribly muddy off the fields!) I love the idea of few 'miles' on my food.

We also produce a lot of rape seed and sunflower oil - maybe keep a look out for it. Good luck with yr.challenge.

Tea is grown in Falmouth. It's quite nice too. I would write a list of all the stuff that you really want to keep eating then start googling to see if there are any local growers of the more exotic things. I think you would be surprised at what you could find.

Optimistic, I know about rape seed oil produced here but didn't know sunflowers are grown for anything other than bird feed in the UK, where can I find made in the UK sunflower oil?

I think this is an amazing idea, I looked into doing this where I'm from (the Isle of Man) last year, but sadly too much was imported in. Though the tables might of turned over the last year. I would love it if you started a blog up so that we can see how your doing or even a forum post!

If you drink wine, there are UK produce's, the most northly vine yard that I know of is in Yorkshire,it was on Countryfile last year, along with the farm down south that is growing olive tree's, and I'v bought UK wine in Al*i.

And also you can grow Kiwi fruit, outside, and orange, lemon and lime inside here, I'v seen the tree's for sale in garden book's[Tom & Morg] and garden centre's, but the fruit is small.

  • Its a great idea, I wish I could do it. I do it in part, I have chickens, a goat and my own greenhouse. And were we live they encourage local produce, I love going to the local farmers markets and buying produce, it makes me proud to buy british. plus we are close to north yorkshire, the north east, the borders and cumbria. So you can always buy local products. Also try the organic veg boxes they are british and many local farms sell whole animals jointed up for you to cook . Also have a look on the web for local food growers you will be suprised. We are getting a beehive soon as I want to learn how to do beekeeping.
Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A
