My brother is a sports/gym enthusiast and I know that if you are serious about fitness and weight training then you shouldn't just be looking at 'price' when buying your protein powders - sure, do shop around to get the best price, but there are lots of generic tubs of crap available on the market that is simply poor quality protein and is not worth the small short term savings, pay a few quid extra and it pays off more in the long run with your health and diet. Apparently, Phd Fitness make some decent stuff, you can try researching them further online. Other big names are Maximuscle. Actually I've just seen and remembered the specific protein powders that I mentioned earlier:

Superfit has good deals on Sci Mentor Premium Whey
    http://www.superstoresearch.com/~Superfit
(but I think the biggest savings are if you spend over £200 you get a % discount off the total order)

and there is Phd Pharma Whey

    Another vote for MyProtein.co.uk.

They have good protein powders and related supplements like dextrose, creatine, L Glutamine etc, great information and superfast delivery! Perfect for when you've ran out of something and need it fast.

I've found other sources of cheap protein supplements. Thought I'd share them here:

    Maximuscle's special offers:
    http://www.maximuscle.com/shop/offers.html

Their offers can be really good where you can save 1/3 off sometimes off products like cylone, promax etc.

For even cheaper deals, Discount-Supplements has some really good offers:

I've gathered some of the best offers onto my website Cheap Protein. I hope others find it helpful!

I personally use Myprotein.co.uk. They are the cheapest going at the moment, what you tend to find is....a lot of supplement companies over charge on protein and add fancy ingredients which do nothing or very little.

Your much better off keeping it simple with something like Impact Whey Isolate & then getting other nutrients from whole foods.

If he's really interested in fitness e.t.c. tell him to check out www.muscle-munch.com. There are quite a few decent articles on there re exercise, diet, bodybuilding e.t.c. They also have a voucher section which offers discounts on supplements.

My personal selection of supplements are....

    Impact Whey Isolate
    Creatine
    Glutamine
    Omega 3's
    Multi-Vitamins!

If you need any more info, you can send me a PM & I'll be happy to explain.

    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

My OH uses myprotein too. He usualy gets un-flavoured & in a bag rather than tub-tends to work out cheaper & he has plenty of old tubs to store it in. As for the lack of flavour-he tends to add something like Nesquik or chocolate powder.

Just wondering if there's any reason he does it this way?

I'd have thought it works out more expensive to buy the flavouring and protein separately - and Nesquik doesn't mix as well with water as the flavoured protein...

(another myprotein user here, by the way, think they're great)

ETA: oooh, a thread revival..thought something was odd :)
  • recently started protein powder (as a vegetarian who plays a lot of tennis; i use half doses for muscle recovery, mainly). Last 3 tubs have been a brand called Sabre, from amazon. they were half-ish price; about mid-20s.

Chocolate flavour was horrid, but vanilla was nice. I add banana and berries, and a little honey and blend to help the medicine go down...
