Anual bonus.

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask so apologies if not.
Well the situation is at my company we receive annual performance related bonuses.
The bonus is always issued on the last working day in March. Our company is doing fine money wise but 3 days before we are due to receive the bonus we were told we are no longer eligible.
There is generally nothing in writing stating we should receive this bonus but it is general knowledge that it was there to get.
Is it legal for a employer to do this as you work hard for a whole year to achieve targets etc, only to be told 3 days before payday that you’re not getting it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Kind Regards,
Paxon.

If it's not a 100% guarantee then yes they can

I really don't like the sound of an Anual bonus personally ... :eek:0

Is there nothing in your targets that state if you meet/exceed etc the targets you will receive...
If not then it is discretionary and unfortunately they are able to pull. But this doesn't sound like that.
Unfortunately if there is nothing in writing about how you are eligible you are unlikely to get anywhere.0 -
Why are they claiming that you are not eligible? It will all depend on that.
However if its a discretionary bonus, no matter how many years its been paid, it doesn't mean they have to pay it this year.0 -
Most bonus schemes are non-contractual and discretionary.
Some are tied to company performance - some just down to the CEO/managements discretion.
For an employer to pull something that is usually paid points to a number of concerns, either a carp management team or financial difficulties.
If it's not written down, not contractual and you are paid over the minimum wage (so it doesn't form part of your wages) then there is little you can do - sorry....0 -
There is little you can do about this - apart from refuse to be motivated by a bonus if ever one is offered again. "Oh, sorry guv', 5% bonus in March? Remember what happened to our bonus in March 2012? Pull the other one."Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
