Lorry's flashing

I work for a firm that deals with one the UK's biggest haulage company's & the lads in the office reckon the only time they flash beams is when they see another colleague on the road.
:j
They reckon wrong. I do that as well but I also flash wagons back in and they flash me back in.
I think that the word of a lorry driver with 2 decades experience is a bit more valid than some muppet who works in an office and books loads with a haulage company.
And would that haulage company happen to be Stobarts? Because if it is, they're not the UK's biggest haulage company, just the most visible.0 -
and what would they know?
they probably are of the same mindset that thinks its only 2 inches to brighton from london and can a driver just nip down to collect a pallet
Haha, you sound like our transport planner.Notmyrealname wrote: »And would that haulage company happen to be Stobarts? Because if it is, they're not the UK's biggest haulage company, just the most visible.
No, Fowler Welch, bud. One of the leading firms in haulage. Owned by the Dart Group who also own Jet2. Not that I work for them or anything, they just ferry our goods around for us.
For the replies regarding 'the rear looks after itself' phrase, it is more for insurance purposes, that if anyone rear ends you, they're liable. Thus lending to the fact that you should pay more attention to what's going on in front of you.
Err, obviously.0 -

People who don't keep to the leftmost lane when not overtaking should be banned from driving.
Once you've overtaken, move back over. Don't sit in the middle lane like a retard, it's not difficult.0 -

Nope, pay attention to both. An insurance payout isn't going to be all that nice when you have to look forward to the rest of your life in constant pain from your injuries.
Trust me, I speak from experience. The 9 grand payout I got is all gone, but the pain isn't.0 -

I have to find someone? Sheesh. Forget it.
Let's just say whoever you think are the best, are indeed the best, and go our seperate ways.0 -

The topic of this thread, firstly, is not enshrined in Law, neither is it to be found under any advice in the Highway Code110
Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.
111
Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed. Use your own judgement and proceed carefully.
112
Therefore any flashing of a headlight should only be done so with the above in mind.
Every overtaking driver has a duty in law to only overtake if it is safe to do so......and they have a duty to keep clear of the vehicle they are overtaking.
Bearing the above in mind,I would consider it unwise for any car driver to use their headlights in the manner proposed by this thread.
There is a presumption that all lorry drivers are skilled and experienced.
This is most definitely not the case.
Some are, but many are not.
Just as many car drivers are not experienced or skilled.
Many lorry drivers posses the same emotional levels as has been noted on this thread, in parts.
Many are not well paid.....or even, give a damn.
The downside to pretending one is [to quote] a ''knight of the road''....is....what will happen if you get it wrong?
What will happen if the lorry driver isn't experienced, so has relied on your headlamp flash...rightly or wrongly?
In my view,, such action is best avoided.
Another issue, is that of existing headlamps?
IE, if one is already on dipped beam headlights...for whatever reason?
There you are, being overtaken by a long lorry, owned by I-care-not....they're almost past you, and your vehicle hits a bump in the road?
What will that overtaking driver see in their N/S mirror?
Why....the headlights appear to be flashed, to be sure, begorrah!
SO they pull over to the left......taking you with them!
Sorry, but the flashing of headlights for the reasons stated in this thread to me is too full of risk to be countenanced.
But..if that's what you lot want to do, then so be it......don't say you haven't been warned! No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
