Excellent. Surely its common sense, if a lorry is kind enough to move out to L2 to let you pull out, and said lorry is then half way past overtaking you, to go slow and allow the lorry to complete the manoeuvre, and only then to think about overtaking them back? However as has been demonstrated by the panic buying of fuel most drivers are stupid.

It's not just lorries, I generally cruise at 56 these days, so I get good economy but don't really hold anyone up...and I'm sad to say it, but I'm increasingly not bothering to move over at entrance slips. It's so often that you get someone join and match your speed, whilst all the poor suckers behind me have to sit and wait for either
    a) my resolve to break and I speed up / slow down
    b) we come up to a slower vehicle that they have to slow down behind.

If I just sit in the inside lane, they have to slow down or speed up to avoid me...but at least they'll normally just get on with driving sensibly then.

Utter rubbish. As a lorry driver I flashed lorries in when the rear of them was a few feet past the front of my cab so they could pull in early and minimise the time in L2.

As a lorry driver overtaking a car, I would leave it a lot longer than I would when passing a wagon before pulling back in. Once the car disappeared out of view in the mirror, I would look at the shadow of the car I was overtaking on the ground and make sure there was plenty of room before pulling in. I wouldn't pull in in front of a car at the same distance I would a wagon.

And the point has been made about experience. I did 400-500 miles PER DAY as a wagon driver. Some years I was doing around 120,000 miles a year driving wagons alone and 150k including car mileage as well.

When you did your once a year "long distance" 150 mile trip to your UK holiday, that would be what I'd typically do in less than half a days work.

How many weeks would it take you to do what I did in a day, how many months to do what I did in a week and how many years to do what I did in a single year?

Sheesh you got out of bed the wrong side today didn't you?

I wasn't having a go, I wasn't insulting anyone, I just queried something I have observed. You then come on and bash me for it - !!!!!! is your problem eh?

As for mileage, next thing you know you'll be claiming you've been driving for years too - yet that defence doesn't work with old folks who don't obey the rules of the road. Mileage and time served on the roads means nothing if yoiu're arrogant enough like you to not give a rats about anyone but yourself on the road.

I leave that to the idiots who hog lane 3 at 68mph and sit there muttering "im doing the speed limit, im not moving over" to themselves.

Well you shouldn't be speeding then should you. While your initial post did make a good point, getting grumpy with those in lane 3 is a bit pointless really. The speed limit is the speed limit and there is no point moaning that other people won't risk their licence for you just because you want them to and are happy to risk yours.

    Nobody is asking them to.

Strider is refering to the kind of muppet I encountered last week. A bloke doing about 66mph in lane 3 of the M4 late at night. I'd been gradually catching up to them as I was doing 69.5 mph (by GPS).

When I finally caught up to them. Did I slow down or take any other action because of their presence?

Nope, I just stayed where I was... in lane 1... and undertook them. There were no other vehicles about for quite some distance.

I got an angry headlight flash for that one.

Or they could just move over and stop being complete !!!!'s........... Lane 2 and 3 are for overtaking, not for passive aggressive knob heads to sit there deliberately blocking up the motorway.

If people want to do >70mph (and 95% of people do), then let them. Sitting there deliberately winding them up is highly irresponsible and incredibly stupid...

Do these people exist in your head? How do you know what they are muttering? I do a lot of motorway miles and I very rarely see these sort of drivers, maybe you're just very unlucky.

I assume you're the sort of person who speeds up when someone tries to overtake you on a single carriageway road because "I'm doing 40mph and that's plenty fast enough for the road".

I have to say from your posts you seem incredibly ill informed about how to drive safely and courteously.

    What a load of tripe.

    1) No I don't block people over taking
    2) I do the speed limit and no less / no more

Ill informed? - Erm No, I just drive safely unlike a lot of people who think they can excuse themselves from it around here. I suspect you're the sort who see's nothing wrong with using a phone while driving too. Grow up pal.

Err, maybe you should try driving at the appropriate speed for the conditions?

I would of thought that would be quite obvious.

However as everyone seems to be having a "Pick on Tricky" day today I'll rephrase it for you:

I drive at the speed limit to the best of my ability as road conditions allow, assuming I am also insured, with valid vehicle excise and MOT. I also observe road signs and use my judgement on unknown roads of those in the country. If completely stumped I become cautious and slow down to a speed I feel safe at.

There, that good enough for you? :D

I'll bet most of you lot don't even check your tyre pressures before hitting a motorway do you :p
