Should I get "on call" pay?

Because i'm supposed to be employed as security. But really i'm general dogs body, but only when it suits depending on peoples moods, if you get what I mean.
Ah ok gotcha! The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!0 -
Instead I got 3 calls to tell me the internet had gone down on site. Its 4am and the building is closed, who cares?!
Right I don't see this as a security issue. The only issues I believe you should be being called out for out of hours is security issues - a alarm going off, open doors, a fire.
And who is making these calls? If no one is working then who is complaining?0 -

I was in a similar situation some years ago when I was key holder but only supposed to attend when it operationally mattered (communications company). We had a monitored alarm & camera system and a security company. For some reason the security company started calling me at all hours of the night and expected me to attend if any alarms sounded, I refused as that was their job and what would they expect me to do if there was intruders on site? I never did find out why they failed to respond to one of the very expensive cameras getting nicked.0

The building is remotely monitored by the alarm company. So it's someone sat in front of a computer in god knows what town. The alarm show's on their system and brings up a list of who to call.
You need to talk to the boss about "Expectations"
His:Does he expect you to be on call all hours and IF called what does he expect you to do?
AND how much is the pay for being "On Call" and then "responding" Out of Hours?
Why are YOU the first contact and again what do the Alarm Co expect you to do?
Yours: It's YOUR mobile phone-which you can switch off when you go to bed\home.
Does he expect you to "monitor" it 24/7?0 -
Agree with everyone else. But your argument should be about the time it takes YOU, and the disturbance to YOU. Leave your baby and family out of it. The fact that the call wakes your baby because he sleeps in your room and you have to get them back to sleep isn't your employer's problem, and will undermine any business argument you have for being paid.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

So the whole alarm system is run from your works internet connection? (I can't otherwise see why they know or are calling you!) Is that usual for alarm systems?0 -
I have never understood why people don't switch their phones OFF overnight ... it's one of their main advantages, isn't it?Signature removed for peace of mind0

I worked on a site for 3 years which needed 2 out of the 4 guards to be on call when the building was closed. We took turns. If we got called out we got paid 3 hrs at double time. Even if we wern't called out we still got 40p per hour for being on call. It was free money in a way if you wern't called out. Of course you couldn't have a drink as we had to drive to the call out. On call phone went every where with you, even to the loo. You need to insist you get extra for this.0

Of course there is a difference between the WORK ON CALL phone and my own personal phone. If work required me to be on call, I'd require them to provide the phone. Then when I was on call, I'd have that phone on 24/7. My own personal mobile gets switched off when I don't wish to receive calls. On call phone went every where with you, even to the loo.Signature removed for peace of mind0
