Epson Printer won't work with new compatible cartridges....please help!

Hello there - two months ago I bought an Epson SX430W printer, rigged it up and worked good as gold.
Just changed all the cartridges to 'compatible' ones but printer now makes a weird clunking noise when 'charging' and does the most pathetic attempt at printing. What comes out looks like the dregs of a 10 year old cartridge with barely there faint print....:(
Just ordered another set of compatible cartridges (in case I'd been sold a duff set) but exactly the same thing happens. See there's a few threads on here with people having problems with compatible cartridges but before I either take off and then reload my printer disc to my laptop or take what may be a working printer back to the shop wondered if anyone else had this problem or can help? Thanks hugely!

1 where did you buy the compatibles from
2 on the page did it say CHIPPED 7 or latest chip 7
I have a sx200 printer and used after the originals finished compatibles every since. I got my last 14 pack, 3sets + 2 extra black from ink-power via ebay, 3years ago i think, they have a 2year shelf life.
other people have recommended other seller on ebay but i've only used them so far.
via ebay recommended sellers.

^the one i've bought my inks from since owning a epson.
these have been recommended by other people on here.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/printsolution/_i.html?_nkw=sx430w&submit=Search&_sid=742048059 this one is doing a larger ink size 19ml on the 15 pack, anyway.

Have you run a head clean since changing the cartridges.
Remove all the inks and check the cartridges have ink by gently shaking them close to your ear, if OK, insert one cartridge from the left, press OK and close the lid and a window should show with a blank window for the inserted cartridge, and a red X against the missing ones. Open the printer, press OK to insert the next ink, press OK, close the lid so you get two blank windows and a red X and so on. If you get one where you insert the cartridge and it still shows a red X, try another cartridge if you have one.
If all the cartridges load without a red X then the ink levels should show. Got to printer preferences, maintenance and run a nozzle check, using plain paper.
This assumes you have removed the yellow tape and any plastic insert in the clip, apologies if you have, but not doing so would produce the prints you mention, and it has been known..
Re-installing may not make much difference, so I would hold off on that for now0 -
thank you soooo much for this and all the other really helpful stuff I found when searching this forum after posting.....was as simple as removing all the cartridges, turning the printer off, then back on and reloading carts and printing a test sheet and we're off back in action action!
Brilliant as I was about to go through the time consuming task of taking off and reloading printer CD into my laptop or even take printer back to the shop but this way I'm in printing mode again - big thanks everyone!0
