Hire Purchase
Hi,
I took out Hire Purchase from ' Black Horse Finace' to get myself a new car.
I couldn't make payments on this after a while, this was then passed onto,
'Mackenzie Hall' Numerous letters, phone calls etc to get the money back. I simply cannot pay the £6500 which is outstanding. Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Kenzie
You really need to give a bit more info first - you said that it was a Hire Purchase - are you certain it was HP or was it a loan(it will be on your agreement). What happened to the car- do you still have it?
Why were you unable to make payments - not trying to pry but it helps to actually have an idea of what your situation is before trying to work out a solution for you. You mentioned that the balance is £6500, but do you know how much the arrears are?
if you can give soem more info I'll try to help0 -
the car was written off. paid some money to black horse but didn't settle the full ammount. only £6500 to pay. no arrears etc0

I had a lot of hassle from Mackenzie Hall a few yrs ago, when I fell behind with Black Horse payments (car loan). I battled it out on my own, but when they started sending letters threatening to bankrupt me, I foolishly took out another loan to pay them off and got myself deeper in debt. I wish I'd taken advice from the CAB or a a debtline.
They are a nasty outfit - be careful of your dealings with them, and get help.
There are one or two other threads about them - read up on others' experiences.

Hi
I have heard some fairly negative feedback about Mhall - a lot of people don't like dealing with them. If you are finding this then I would suggest actually writing to Blackhorse and stating in your letter that you are unwilling to deal with Mackenzie Hall and that you wish to make an arrangement with Blackhorse directly. Send it special/recorded delivery. It's highly unlikely that the account has actually been sold to MH - it's more likely to have just been passed across for them to act as a collection agent so they should be able to do this for you. You may have to pester but Blackhorse are normally easier to deal with.
I would also suggest making a reeasonable offer of payment. if you want to get this sorted as quickly as possible, I would suggest making up an Income and Expenditure which shows what you have coming in and going out, and then making an offer of regular monthly payments. This should save you a lot of toing and froing as to accept " reduced" payments (i.e. anything under the normal payment) for any length of time they will ask for this information anyway. I would even suggest you send a cheque in for 1 payment of this amount, made payable to blackhorse( put your acc number on the payee line as well)
Try to make the offer of payment something which will seem reasonable from their side - so don't sent in an income and expenditure showing you have £200 spare cash a month and offer them £5! if the offer is reasonable they should accept it.
hope this helps
P.s. - I should prob say that I work for Blackhorse so know how they work!0 -
p.s. are you working now?0
-
yeah, i'm working now0

in that case I would definitely go for sending the letter with details of your circumstances along with a cheque for your first payment. If you do this then the account should go back to Blackhorse and you can just start making regular payments to sort thing out. AS long as you are actually paying they won't take it further;0
