Reference Issues....

Hi all, just a quick query, I'll keep it as brief as I can.
Is there any comeback on previous employers who repeatedly provide false statements which, intended or not, cause an employee problems in their new workplace?
By statements, I don't mean the actual content of the reference, more to do with dates of employment being way off the mark which arouses suspicion in the new job until the employee can prove otherwise? Surely after the old employer had gotten it wrong once, they would update their record to stop the same error happening again when another reference is required (short-term contracts).
Thanks for any input with this

Perhaps it would be prudent to write to the ex-employer and advise them of the difficulty that this is causing you in getting short-term contracts. Explain what the problems are and ask that they correct the information they have on file.
Employers do not have to provide references so if you go in heavy you are likely to get no cooperation at all.0
