My OH is looking for a new job and a part time job with Royal Mail has come up, but it says its a 6 month tempory contract.
Has anyone had a job with RM before and had a tempory contract?
Just wondering the likelyhood of being kept on etc and wanting to know others experiences please..

you might get kept on,you might get dropped
highly unlikely to get a permanent contract0 -
Im with RM,
i say take it, the chances are 50/50 but most of the time you'll be kept on.
depends on the role sorter or postie
if its mail centre work then chances are good. he might get trained to work on the IMP• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C
• Nationwide Old A/C0 -
my boyf got taken on xmas 2010 for 3 weeks and almost 18 months later he's still there. Still not permanent though, they just keep giving him new temporary contracts each time one runs out, think he's signed about 4 or 5 now with the next one due to run out next month, he is constantly on pins wondering if he will ever get made permanent. I'm curious to know how long do you have to actually be with an employer as a temp before legally you have to be made permanent? anyone know? thanks0

I believe it used to be one year but it got changed to two years. If I'm correct, sue me.0 -

Thanks, its for a postie. does that make a difference as to his chances of being kept on?0 -
National press keep hinting at the probability of RM being privatised. With the huge increase in cost of sending letters, this may impact on numbers sent and thus possibly less staff needed. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Let me guess, is it angard? or a FULL RM contract ?
Postie roles never last (not in this day n age) the posting office near me took on 50 lasted for 3 months and got kicked out.
can't see why RM need posties... they have the staff shame there just a bunch of lazy c#nts.... you should see what it's like in there they hardly do anything (but there are some hard workers)
Mail centre near me took on 6 and there still here 3 yrs later.
If he takes it, least its money ya? but don't hold ya breath about him being kept on, I'll be surprised.• HSBC (Main A/C)
