muffin tray ???

Options
Hi
This might sound like a really silly question - but here goes ....
I have decided to bake some muffins, i have 2 different trays i could use:
1. a silicone mini muffin tray has 24 holes
2. a normal tray which has 12 holes ( i normally use this for yorkie puds) this tray the holes are probobly only about 1" deep - would this be a muffin tray ???

It states on the recipie that its for 12 muffins, does this mean i could use either tray ??

I am going to use one of the recipies from the grocery challange thread and hopefully these will do for hubbies lunches and kids packed lunches, Do you think the smaller 24 muffin tray would be ok, as hubbie will eat half before it comes to making the packed lunches tomorrow morning ?

Hi, no such thing as a silly question in my book.

I think the 1" deep tray is what I call a bun tray. I have a couple of these which I use for fairy cakes. I also have a muffin tray which I buy special muffin paper cases for, the holes on this one are much deeper, about 2.5".

For hubbys packed lunch I make a standard cake mix (6oz marg, 6 oz sugar, 6 oz flour, 3 eggs then 3 oz dried fruit, blueberries, chocolate chips or whatever). This fills 12 muffin cases but would work equally well in the smaller tray.

If your recipe is for 12 muffins then I dont see any reason why it wouldnt work in either tray. Do you have paper cases for the one that you normally do yorkshire puds in? If so I would probably experiment by putting some of the mix in both and see which works best.

    Definitely not a silly question.
My muffin recipes tend to be for a dozen standard muffins, but the same quantity makes 48 mini muffins. You may need to adjust the recipe quantities. (or make both sizes)
I've found that I don't need paper cases for the silicon moulds, but they do look prettier.

    Thanks for the replies.
I only have large cup cake cases - so i think its going to have to be the mini muffins - or i might pick up some cases on the way to collect the kids, depending on how much time i have.

Warning - I tried using muffin cases in my 12 hole tray (that I use for yorkies and fairy cakes) and they came out really flat! I also get confused by the tin sizes, I even have one that is somewhere in between... I have the silicon muffin tray that is definitely a lot deeper, I tried using it without cases but I had trouble getting them out...

Those trays that are one inch deep are too shallow. I learned that from experience when they turned out flat. I invested in a proper muffin baking-tray from Wilkos for only four quid.

Well muffins are in the oven :D
I managed to get some muffin cases so i have filled 12 of these and had enough for 12 mini muffins too ;)

I just have to see what they turn out like :o

    Thanks
