Will of course try and stay topped up in case of action but is there an 'industry standard' on not being able to get to my place of work due to the inability to obtain fuel?
Checked and the nearest train station is a 30 min walk-is this reasonable plus of course it raises the question of affordablilty.

I have a 60 mile round trip to contend with daily and if any action goes ahead I could manage a couple of days only without having to top up?
(I understand it may all come down to what my contract detail state.)
    Just curious...

I work in a fairly remote location, 40 miles from home. I'd have to bus to the train station, catch a train, then walk from train station to work location. I'd probably have to leave home at four in in the morning to get there for eight. Realistically, the cost would be prohibitive, so I'll possibly find myself out of a job.

Most employer's will have a commutable distance policy mainly to cover bad weather like snow, our place everyone with a 3mile radius is expected to turn in and other's if they can safely, the day's off are unpaid or taken from our holiday allowance, i expect a fuel strike they would most likely use the same policy,
  • I work in a huge estate in the middle of a rural village - nearest railway station is more than 10 miles away and its a 30 minute fast walk up the drive from the main gate to my office! Don't think there's anyway i'll be getting in if the petrol runs out :)

Me thinks there will be less workers using the strike as an excuse to not go to work if the good weather leaves us.

Anyone thinking of storing fuel, note there is a limit to how much you can store at home, not sure how much that is though - worth checking. Apparently in the last tanker strike in 2000 someone was prosecuted for filling wheelie bins with petrol. Their neighbours complained due to the smell!

You can store 2 x 10L of petrol in approved, sealed metal containers or 2 x 5L in approved plastic containers

Calm down !!!!!!. There is'nt going to be a strike for certain and even if there is a strike the army will drive the tankers. You people doing the panic buying are like headless chickens.
Do you suggest I fill my car's tank to the brim, drive home the one mile and then go back to the petrol station to 'top it up'?
There 'might' be a hose pipe ban this year, shall I fill my bath up full of water now, oh I can't, it's full of petrol

Returning to the OP, you don't need to walk 30 minutes to the station, you could drive that part (it can't be more than a couple of miles, so your tank of petrol should last for weeks) and get the train - yes it'll cost you, but if it's that or lose your job then you'll have to make that choice. However, I'm inclined to the view that this is all scaremongering and there won't be any strike.
