NI name change

Hey
My mum went through her whole life with two different spelt names on her documents. let's assumed her name is Marissa.
On her passport she has Marissa written down, on her NI, housing benefit (she's an OAP) and council tax her name is written out Marisa.
Now it's never been a problem for some reason until now. I visit her every now and again and need visitors permits to allow me to park. Because she's over 60 she's entitled to them for free.
Problem is. The council is being quite anal about it, Marisa Lauren is not the same as Marissa Lauren despite the fact that address and DOB match on the ID.
SO now I'm going through the labourous task of writing to all the departments to get her documents unified using the same spelling.
I remember when I received my NI card there was a paper given which allowed you to correct mistakes and stuff, my mum doesn't have that paperwork, and I can't seem to find the form on the hmrc website.
Really though, I'd like to know what the process involves in getting her name spelling altered (just adding an extra s in her name). Will it be a straight forward "write you correct name and it's sorted" or will we have to go through legal routes, and get a solicitor to sort everything out.

You can do this without a solicitor.
You will need some certified copies of the birth certificate, passport and any other documents with the correct spelling.
Better to do it as soon as possible, in the event of death, it would complicate administration were it left undone.0
