Yes, I can cancel my card and transfer to a spare basic bank account I opened a while back, I just dont want them ringing me at work, should I call them or just ignore them?
Is National Debtline or Payplan the best way to go?
Cancelling the card may not be enough. A friend with a PDL cancelled her card, got a new one but the PDL company was still able to take money out of her account using the old card she had cancelled! Best to start afresh with a new account with someone you don't owe any money to.
Personally I would call them because until you have sorted things out with them they will keep hassling you. Once you have sorted things out if they still keep hassling you then you have grounds for complaint as that constitutes harassment.
I haven't heard much about the service National Debtline give. I use CCCS and have found them very good and they are free. Lots of people use Payplan too and they seem OK from the comments I have read on the forum.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

The basic bank account - thats with a totally different bank is it?
A DMP provider should always advise that you need a new bank account if you have pdls going into a DMP, to prevent them from taking money from your account - its a shame VB didn't explain that to you.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
The PDL I took recently were not of high amounts, only appox £800 in total, not much to survive a month considering rent is 400, travel to work is 80, gas, electric, food etc doesn't leave a lot I can assure you. My bank was emptied by an old debt, have less than a fiver within 24hours of being paid isn't fun. I now want a way forward.
Just panicking what to do with my current PDL that have yet to default should I be honest or just hide away and hope they don't call work or something
So are you out of work then? Have you checked to see if you can apply for any benefits?
I can't post links but if you check the directgov website and look under
MoneyTaxAndBenefits then BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport
There's a list of all the benefits available and info on whether you qualify or not.0
