Moorcroft

Hi everyone.

Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine :)

I have a debt with o2 for £635 which has not been passed on to Moorcroft Debt Recovery. I'm not sure whether they have bought the debt or are acting on behalf of o2.

I know that I need to get this paid but can only afford £50/month. Are they likely to turn this down and demand more? Any advices on what to do in this situation?

I am considering phoning them tomorrow and can make a £50 payment straight away.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would suggest you write to make your offer rather than do it by phone.
They may ask for more than the £50 you can afford, but if its all you can afford then that is all you should pay.

Preferably arrange to pay either by standing order or ask for a paying-in book or pay by cheque. Its best not to give debt collectors your debit card details or your bank details for a DD.

Thank-you Tixy. I will write a letter tonight with the offer. Is there any wording in particular that I should note down?

May have to order a new cheque book in that case..!

There are some templates on national debtline website sample letters section that can be useful as a starting point. Some of those include sending an income & expenditure statement though - which I wouldn't do in your situation.

I haven't had a cheque book for years - you could consider standing order, that way you control how much you pay. With a DD some debt collectors have been known to take more than a person believes they agreed to.

Firstly, how did you get on?

All debt collection agencies can be very persistent on the phone, and so a written reply is often easier for the faint hearted. That said however I think that your offer should have been snapped up as it is a considerably high percentage of the total debt.
  • Well... I got a letter yesterday from Moorcroft confirming that they will accept my offer of £50/month, great news! Thanks for the letter help Tixy!

Now... they say in the letter that they want the first payment by 18th April, but I can't really afford to pay it until I get paid on 27th. Any clues as to whether or not they will accept this, or should I try to borrow the money from a friend until 27th?

I'm 100% sure this would be acceptable.

How are you intending to pay, DD, SO, Cheque or card?

if you want DD, ask for the DD to be set up and never ignore a letter from them that might be their 14 dys notice to change things, (if that does occur just start this cyale all over again).

SO? Just set it up and ignore their deadlines.

Cheque? pre date it but dont post until the day before you want the payment processed and blame the cost of stamps over the delivery serice.

Card? contact the local agent (if their is one assigned to your case, which seems unlikely at this time)

For those who are paying moorcroft, they do their own paying in book, which you can use at the bank and pay in cash etc also cheque, etc..
  • Just a quick update...

I called Moorcroft to arrange for payments to come out when I get paid and they were more than helpful! Even set up the date a few days later than pay day (just incase!). They have also sent this in writing!

Thought I would share this good experience as I know they are not common :)
