Hi All
Hope everyone is well. I would like some advice please.
I am gutted at the moment because I was in a full time job but was told two weeks ago my hours would be cut from 37 to around 25hours per week due to the company been very quiet. I have my partner who is a full time mum to our seven month baby boy to support so I thought I best try to find something else.
A night shift job turned up at a local company, i got the job handed in my notice at my old company and went to my new job Sunday night.
:(Everyone working there where polish and latvian. I wasnt told what to do I was just placed on a line, I then asked the supervisor what to do and she shouted at me in polish and I didnt understand her. I then asked the workers around me who could not understand me. After three hours I was really struggling and again the polish supervisor came over shouted and waved her hands at me. I was calm and said I am really sorry but I dont understand you. She then said very loudly GO HOME. So I handed in my key to my locker to the polish shift manager who again couldnt speak hardly any english and I left.
Please dont think I am a racist because I am not. I tried to ask various questions but everyone was laughing at me and ignoring me.
My main question is Ive applied for JSA online today but im frightened they may not give me it as I was sent home. Im also frightened the polish manager will say I didnt do my job right.
I put reason for leaving employment on my JSA form down to Communication Issues.
:(I tried to do what was best for my family but it has gone really wrong.
Any advice would be great and thank you for your time

Don't panic. There are a number of things that you can do.
Go back to the person who interviewed/offered you the job at the local company and talk to them. If it's a no go then go back to your previous employer and ask for your old job back. If that's a no go then at least try to get in writing from both employers the reason for your current circumstances. It may well help with jobseekers.
If you do get your old job back and I know that it is only 25 hours, then you can look into getting tax credits and/or splitting childcare with your girlfriend so that she could work part-time.
It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings and you can't hear me singing can you?:D
Give us an update when you have explored some of the above0 -
Thank you for the reply. My old job is now not available due to cut backs and I rang the other employer today about my treatment. I was told that they thought I wasnt suited to the positon and have now replaced me. So Ive now got to hope we get JSA and housing benefit while we get back on our feet.
If we are rejected for JSA can we claim income support?0 -
Personally I'd be shouting racism.0

So would I seeing as if it was one of them they would be doing it.0 -
My partners friend has just phoned me a short time ago. He told me he lasted one hour at this factory as he couldn't understand the manager or supervisor. He left as same as me he didn't have the right PPE fact. Then the factory told the jobcentre that the factory had english speaking managers when they clearly don't. It took him months to get JSA. Im frightened the same happens to me and I wont have any money for rent, food etc.0

One of "them" what? How do you know this?
Much as I sympathise with the poster, and actually I do agree that it maybe worth exploring whether there is a claim here, I see no reason to make assumptions about "them" or what they might do. It makes one no better than the latter employer.0
