  • Hi Scottish 251
I am also in a similar boat with wonga but I don't want to default before setting up a repayment plan - how did you get on with this?
    Thanks

    Hi there,

I'm in debt with pay day loans.

I found Wonga to be quite helpful; im not quite sure how they react before you've defaulted on a payment, but give them a call and see what they say. They were more than happy to assist me with setting up a repayment plan :)

I had a loan from Wonga in the past, extended it twice and still couldnt afford to pay it due to the interest that had been added. Got some advice from a friend who had also done the same, rang them up and explained I couldnt afford to pay and asked if I could set up a payment plan.

No need to cancel your card / bank account, just give them a call and they'll sort something out with you.

EDIT - By the way, I hadn't defaulted before I rang them but they still set up a payment plan for me & froze the interest.

  • Hi there

I too have a payday loan for 1300 from Wonga that I now cannot afford to pay off at the end of the month. So after reading some positive comments on the forum about them being quite helpful re setting up a payment plan, I called them.

Unfortunately they were not helpful at all. The 'advisor' I spoke to said they could not set up a payment plan until the day the payment was actually due but I could extend the loan again for a fee.

I was very frustrated as I explained I cannot afford the fee or to pay off the loan but I wanted to pay in instalments so they would receive their money eventually. I got quite angry and asked to speak to his supervisor who....'surprise surprise' was in a meeting!!

I have asked for a phone call from the supervisor and have emailed them too. I'm not too hopeful that I will get a reply either way but just wondered if anybody had experienced the same treatment.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

I'd always write - so you have written proof
recorded delivery letter or email will do

For Payday lenders I found it is also best to write in your own words
rather then copy some template - apparently they hate seeing legal worded official jargon just copied more then anything - just what my experience has been, no money in this world would get me calling a PDL creditor with no backup for the future!!! (unless your into recording calls or can handle possibly being being backed into a corner or lied to) you also set a precident for them to keep calling you on numbers you rather they didn't ie. work no and for there to be no official correspondence thus unable to prove anything, should you need it later
