I was in the same situation - had a service agreement with BG then after several yers they said they could no longer get parts for our type of boiler so I stopped the agreement and put the same amount of money I was paying them eachmonth into a savings account to save up for the new boiler. The boiler continued to work fine for several more years.

My boiler's on the last year of cover due to it's age.

I'm sticking away £25/month to start saving for a new one and when the contract ends, the £20/month for the cover will be going away too - hoping it lasts another 2/3 years so I'll have some money saved up for a new one!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
For what its worth, we had been paying for British Gas boiler insurance, when our boiler broke, they said that we needed a new one and would not replace it under the insurance/warranty (its only 4 years old)... said it would cost us £3000 fitted.

We got a third party qualified engineer out to look at it, 2 hours later plus £80 and its been working now for 18 months without a single issue.
