Tax Code Confusion

Hi,

Im wondering if someone could help me please?

Last April I changed to part time in what was my full time job. My hours changed to 18 hours per week. I also took on another part time position for another company work 19 hours per week.

I have since found that both pay slips show that my tax code is 747L.

Is this right?

Job one earnings are - £7344 per year
Job two earnings are - £6660 per year

No it's most definitely wrong and will mean you have underpaid on tax for this last tax year.

Your main job - ie one with highest earnings - should be 747L and 2nd job should be BR. This would be nearly correct although you would have around £130 worth of unused allowances.

When you started your new job did you complete a P46 and tick Box C to say you had another job?

Best get onto HMRC now and sort this out. With the 2 jobs you should have paid £1305.80 in tax over the full year but with a 747L tax code on each you would have paid no tax.

Thank you. Yeah I filled out the P46 correctly which is why I never really questioned anything, my fault really.

I'll get on to HMRC today to sort it out.
