My DH had a tax rebate letter today :j but unfortunately doesn't have a bank account. His JSA gets paid into my account, he is worse with money than I am
So..... how does he go about cashing this in?Will he have to get a basic account? Or will my bank allow it to be paid into my account?
Thanks x

Hi
Might be a good ide to get a basic bank account? Barclays and Co-op do them for people who are bankrupt (not discharged), so they might be a good place to start, unless he owes either of them money. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Maybe he should open a basic bank account especially for his wages when he gets another job.
He must have had a job before for the tax rebate, where did he have those wages paid?Pay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2023 #59 £7008 Paid £570 Owing £6438 #1 H1 £151, #2 H2 £100, #3 O £200, #4 M £1500, #5 Z £295, #6 C1 £340, #7 L £1084, #8 N £840, #9 C2 £19300 -
He has paid his wages into my bank account for the last..... 6 or 7 years now.
Will look into the basic bank accounts, how quickly can this be opened?

i don't know how long it takes? it's been ages since i opened one. i used just go into a branch with a £1 and open one, and thats is how i opened my son's 12 years ago now.
Maybe they still do it like that, then he could deposit the cheque straight away. They will ask for id etc.
Someone will get a better answer than me soon xxPay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2023 #59 £7008 Paid £570 Owing £6438 #1 H1 £151, #2 H2 £100, #3 O £200, #4 M £1500, #5 Z £295, #6 C1 £340, #7 L £1084, #8 N £840, #9 C2 £19300 -
When you open an account in branch, it is opened straight away. You get your account number and sort code there and then. You are able to go in open an account and deposit the cheque at the same time - at least with Natwest you can, with their basic account
