Mortgage redemption fees - are we entitled to claim back?

In April 2004 we found ourselves in the fortunate position to be able to pay off our endowment mortgage. Now I appreciate banks don't like you paying off loans early, and we were obliged to pay a fee, which was broken down as £99.00 Deed Handling charge and £80.00 Discharge fee. Not being familiar with bank procedures, I assume this to be someone taking our deeds from their files and sending to us and another person processing our payment and closing our account. Therefore, I feel £179 for these 2 actions could be deemed a little steep!
Are we entitled to challenge these fees along the lines of the recent bank and overdraft charges stance? We have no fears of relatiatory action as we no longer bank with the building society involved.
Any advice appreciated,
thanks, L
