Urgent Debt collection help needed please

If they do come up with a copy of the Signed Credit Agreement, haggle with them. You can usually get them to accept a full and final payment. I would try offering them £400, tell them this would have to come from a friend/parent and is as far as you can raise as you would need to repay this to them on a monthly basis, otherwise tell them you can pay £20.
Bankruptcy is an option as the debt is over £750, this is a huge palaver and as the debt is fairly low not cost effective (below this and the court will not allow, they could get CCJ for debt below £750).
If you are willing to go further let them take you to court, by the sounds of things they can't really prove the debt and they don't sound as if they have anything with your signature on i.e no credit agreement. You can't take anything further in court if you can't prove the debt.0 -
They have reduced the debt to £429.65 but im still unsure its actually ours to pay0

Don't do anything until they respond to the letter. If they cannot prove the debt is yours - even though it is within the 6-year statute timescale, they cannot force you to pay.
Even if your partner has paid the bill, they may still be demanding the money because for some reason, the original catalogue company didn't remove the debt from their file, or them selling the debt to Wescott effectively crossed with the payment made.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
