Ive tried searching but with no luck but can anyone help me understand SSP. I currently work PT (20hours) but earn £8.51ph. So I earn a decent amount per hour. The doctor has just signed me off sick for 2 weeks does anyone know what money I will recieve? Ive worked for my employer for 4 years next month but Im sure the company does not pay sick pay. It is permanent employment. Ive never been signed off sick before so need to work out if I can afford to take it.

Thanks Everyone!

    Hi,

THIS LINK to the Direct.gov website is a factsheet on SSP.

It says that you should be able to get SSP if:
If you're working for an employer under a contract of service (even if you've only just started), you're entitled to Statutory Sick Pay if all of the following apply:

    you're aged between 16 and 65
you're sick for at least four days in a row (weekends and bank holidays are included)
you're earning at least £84 a week on average

So from what you have said in your post you should easily meet the requirements.

What does your contract say with regards to Sick Pay?

The standard rate for Statutory Sick Pay is £70.05 a week.

I havent got a copy of my contract but Im pretty sure they say they wont pay it. At the time I commenced work with them I was very unorganised... thus the debt. Its only recently Ive become organised. Do you think £70.05 is the most I will recieve then?

    Thankyou

SSp standard rate is £70.15 a week. I assume you would receive all of that, but I am sure someone else will be along soon who can confirm that. (I know it's not much, am trying to live on it at the moment for at least the next month or two!).

It doesnt even cover one shift, how bad is that for people who need to be off work! I have 2 kids and get basic CTC and CB.

I have been off work for 7 years due to ill health and it is a struggle living on benefit! It is an extremely tight budget but that's life there is no choice if you are ill!

It really is impossible, I am lucky that hubby earns a reasonable amount and my Mum has offered to help out a bit. No idea how someone on their own could manage to live on £70 a week. Just hoping I can get back to work ASAP, but sometimes u have no choice if u are ill.

I suppose I am lucky that I get DLA which helps. I had a mortgage when I was forced to leave work and I was extremely worried - I did not get any help for a year, I had to pay mortgage in full, and then housing benefit did not cover the mortgage ... now they pay £184 a month for my housing! I know that houses like mine are being rented out at £450 a month and am sure that anyone renting on benefit would get more than £184 a month. On the other hand I suppose it is different as I am buying a house ... I really don't know how they work it out.
