Hi Mart,
As you say, this comes up quite often but I am still somewhat vexed by it. I have a Micro CHP boiler, Solar PV and a meter that runs backwards when exporting. My supplier is Scottish Power and my FiT provider is Scottish Power. I have told them that the meter runs backwards on two separate FiT applications. They know what type of meter I have.
Incidentally, the last time my meter was changed, in 2007, it was for an older design of meter!
Hiya Kevin, don't blame you for being vexed. Maybe I was a little naive last year when I first heard about this, but I still can't honestly believe that the energy suppliers, or perhaps more correctly the DNO's don't know what meters we have!
As our bills are dictated to by the accuracy of these devices, and there are many rules and even laws about there appropriate use, how can the DNO's not have an accurate list of meter types and the houses in which they were fitted. Serious question here, did nobody think to note down the type of meter being installed in the past?
Whilst I appreciate the mathematical logic behind the explanations I have given for energy suppliers to reclaim monies, I don't actually agree with it, unless it is done very quickly (2 to 3 months perhaps?). After that, well, if they wanted the money so bad, then switch the meter sooner.

the day before i had my solar panel fitted (feb 21) edf read my meter it was 2000. i made a appointment to have the meter changed. the chappie arrived last monday, he couldnt change my meter as he didnt have the correct meter on board, but took a meter reading (1971). now my meter is reading 1952. if we have a few cloudy days, i will be able to reuse the spent electric and try and get it back up to 1971. i am not hassling edf anymore though as they know i have a meter going backwards.life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0

Hi all....
I have the same meter runnign backward issue......
EDF are charging me based on estimated usage, as I cannot put in a meter reading...
my last actualy reading was in march, (panels fitted in Dec) so not too much effect of the panels......
Is it worth me putting in a reading of March + 50 units for July? thus I can start to get the usage pattern inline?0
