I have to review, select and edit some 250 'photos, taken by a friend.
They have put these 'photos into a Dropbox folder. I joined Dropbox at my friend's invitation. There are no 'photos in my folder. When I use my friend's email address and password I can see the folder of 'photos but not do anything else.
How do I get my friend's folder into my Dropbox and then into Picassa on my pc, please?

Have they shared the folder with you? If so you should just see their folder in your public folder I think.0

Well I can get in using my friend's email and password - so I'm in his Dropbox account - now how exactly do I transfer the folder to my own account?0

Bump.
Please help! I've been grappling with this problem for weeks and getting nowhere - can anyone tell me exactly what I have to do in order to share my friend's folder with my own Dropbox, then transfer the 'photos to my pc where I can select the ones I need and put them in a new folder.0 -

I am a bit gobsmacked that over on the referrers board there is a three page thread full of praise for this prog., yet few people seem to have any experience with it.
My first problem would appear to be that I don't know which buttons to press in order to share the 'photo folder between my friend's account and my own. Then I need the 'photos in a prog. on my pc that I can actually use, in order to edit and produce a new folder to pass on to someone else.
This problem is proving so ridiculously hard to solve that I am actually considering getting on a 'plane and travelling 1000 miles in order to re-take the 'photos myself! Very UN-MSE of course.0 -
Dear Espresso, thank you very much for that link - I have never seen that page on Dropbox before (and still can't find it on either friend's or my log-in). In fact all my friend's page has on it is the Dropbox logo and folder of 'photos; no headings for 'help' or anything else).
From the info on the page you linked me to:
When you share a folder in one of the ways described above, we will immediately send email invitations to the addresses you provided. These invitations tell the recipients that you’ve shared a folder with them and gives them a link to accept your invite.
Once they accept your invitation, the folder will appear in their Dropbox account.
..Except that when I responded to my friend's invite, the folder did not appear in my account.
Now trying to follow the instructions for sharing on Windows; I right-clicked on the folder but get a completely different menu to that illustrated. There is no option to 'share folder'.
I can only assume my friend has done something odd when setting up his original account?
This may be very basic stuff and I freely admit my brain is not what it was; I'll keep trying as it is really important to get this done - but am beginning to think I'll either have to fly over or employ someone to do it for me.
Thank you again for replying, Espresso, I really appreciate you trying to help.0 -
I don't really understand why you need to see them in your account if you already have access to them using your friend's account.
Simply download the pictures to your PC. You can then edit etc. and upload them to your own account. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Just tried to follow the instructions on the help page you gave me the link to, on downloading entire folders. But when I click on the 'photo folder icon as instructed, I do not see a 'Download' bar - instead the folder opens and I get a screen showing the icons of the files within the folder.
<sigh>
ETA: Could this be a problem with my browser? My friend uses IE but I don't get on with it; am a fan of Chrome.0 -

As you know your friend`s log in details one way to get the pictures downloaded is to log out of your own dropbox on your PC (right click the Dropbox icon in the system tray and select exit), Open the Dropbox website and sign in using your friend`s email address and password.
You should now see a web version of their Dropbox folder. Navigate to the folder containing the photos, right click it and select download from the menu. Choose a location or let your browser down load the folder to the default downloads folder.
Then just wait for the download to complete. You then have a full copy of that folder
You can use this method for access to files in your own Dropbox on any other computer without having to load the dropbox software.

PS.
Having typed all that I think the only extra thing you needed to do was to click the desired folder using the right mouse button to show the context menu with the option to download, rather than the left which would only open the folder/link. I too use Chrome and this works fine for me.0
