Just saw the pic, OMG indeed, i too would be devastated .. and extremely angry.
What a stupid bl00dy SIL she must have.
I think i would trying the small claims court, how dare he do that to something that is on your property.
Some people do allow their trees to grow too high but that is totally unaccepable.0 -
Jesus m8 i would of been knocking on your door years ago to get that monster of a hedge cut...the war is over, no need for blackout anymore..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Pity she couldn't have talked to you about it (and that the SIL was such an idiot... she may well be embarrassed). I had a tree surgeon round to do some work in my garden and asked a neighbour if they would like them to take down the very ugly christmas tree that had been planted in their garden 15 years ago by the previous tenant - they jumped at the chance
I was paying day rate, so it didn't cost me anymore and I now have a pile of logs seasoning. Another neighbour who has a hedge of 30ft western cedars asked for the tree surgeon's card... so at least none of us has to brave the conversation with him that we've been worrying about for the last 10 years!

There is no war, there is no blackout. Funny how none of the other neighbours have expressed their hatred for my hedge isn't it ?
My neighbour of 15 years likes to have a high hedge, infact they never cut it/ trim it or tend to it in anyway...We hate it!! it blocks light in the morning until around midday in our kitchen and is very overwhelming.
Hedge on other neighbours side is approx 6' and bottom of the garden also 6' and then the offending hedge is approx 15'. it looks very odd that we have to cut into it half way and then leave their side high as hell.
Ive never said a thing about it to the neighbour because i know she likes to have it so high.
Point being, just because your other neighbours haven't said anything about your hedge to you, doesn't mean theres not a problem with your hedge height.
If the hedge was constantly blocking light from the whole garden though, something would have to be done about it, proberly involving the council, i dont think she would agree willingly to cut the hedge.Build your own dreams ~ or someone will hire you to help build theirs

From what the Police told me, you have no automatic right to light in your garden. My hedge didn't block anyones light which is why i was so surprised that my neighbour chose to do what she did.
A conversation about the hedge might solve your problem, if my neighbour had done this first, i wouldn't be posting on here !
I speak to all my other neighbours practically every day, i go on family holidays with one of them, it isn't a problem for any of the others, they've all spoken to me about what happened and were just as shocked as i was ! My hedge is cut twice a year to keep it tidy, i can understand you wanting something done if it's affecting your property as it is. 15' is too high for a hedge.0
