Possible uses for egg cups?

Can anyone suggest a use for some egg cups that i have?

We were given them by a relative from overseas and i had forgotten all about them, just found them now whilst clearing out the spare room and they are still in the box that they came in.

They are quite beautiful and hand painted with a slight glaze with a matching bottle with a stopper type thing (not sure what this is at all)

The only thing that i can think of is to hold tealights but i`m not sure whether or not they would withstand the heat.

I hope that someone has some ideas cos i can't think of anything else :o

    Some ideas here:

Although tealights might be dangerous there's an idea on the link for making your own candles in eggshells. I like the flower arrangements and the daffodil jellybean picture made me think of vodka jelly shots!

Make a small batch of this to go in them?

    AIR FRESHENER GEL

This is from the MSE book, “Thrifty Ways For Modern Days”.

    Makes 500ml

    INGREDIENTS

500ml of distilled or de-ionised water
    1 packet of gelatine
Essential oil or fragrance of your choice

    METHOD

Put 250ml of the water into a saucepan on a medium heat. Bring almost to the boil, then turn down the heat to low.

Add the gelatine. Stir thoroughly, until it is dissolved.

Remove the pan from the heat. Add the remaining 250ml of water.

Add 10 to 20 drops of the oil or fragrance, a few drops at a time, until it is as smelly as you want.

Pour the mixture into clean containers.

    Leave them to cool overnight.

    ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES

There are vegetarian alternatives to gelatine, like agar, carrageen and pectin, and also products with names like Veg-E-Gel and VegeSet.

Add some food colouring of your choice, a few drops at a time, until it is the colour you want.

You can put it in the fridge overnight, if you need it to set more quickly, but it will make the fridge smell.

    TIPS

I use this to refill spent gel air fresheners. You could also use empty small food jars. You could also use small shot glasses, which are usually available from pound shops.

Thankyou very much indeed, some lovely ideas there.

I think that i will make air fresheners in half and dried flowers in the other half, the bottle thingy will just be used as an ornament.

Feel so much better now that i have a use for them - they have been boxed up for years.

:DI think they are might be a sake set, rather than eggcups if there's a bottle with them -

why not sell them? There are egg cup collectors out there! you have the box you say? why not get in touch with an auction house and ask them to sell them for you - or put them up on ebay? or if they are 'sake set' - to identify them for you?

We syringe any liquid meds (like calpol) into them when children are sick - they thought it was fun to drink their meds from it, like a little special cup.:rotfl:
