Applying for mortgage from a new/temporary address

Hi,

We have just exchanged on our sale and will complete next week. As we did not manage to find somewhere suitable to buy, we decided to live with relatives for a short while. Sods law that after exchanging, we found somewhere and got an offer accepted.

We are now starting the mortgage application process for the new property. What I am worried about is that we will need to use our relatives address for the application/correspondence, but will have no proof of address for living there. The guy on the phone during the D.I.P process said not to worry and that credit checks would be done on the old address if we'd lived at the relatives address for less than a certain period. But that doesn't really solve the proof of address problem? We're awaiting the appointment for the full application.

Does anyone know how this would work? If the credit checks went against the old address, do we still need to be on the electoral roll there? We had no intention of updating the address on the electoral roll but we need to make sure we do everything we can to stop a mortgage application being rejected on a silly technicality. We can change addresses on online banking easily enough, but statements are monthly so could add quite a delay. Also would that affect the credit file?

It's all so complicated and on top of all that we need to be packed and moved out in days.

    Not a problem.

When my partner and I bought a joint property. We sold mine. Then lived in hers for 5 weeks. Sold hers. Then lived with relatives and friends for 9 weeks with 95% of our belongings in storage.

Didn't cause any issues. Other than constantly redirecting mail!

Which address did you use on your mortgage application, and what did you use for proof of address?

I'm thinking to use our relatives address for the application, and bank statements as proof of address there (you can easily update it in online banking so just a case of waiting for the monthly statement).

We had already applied for a DIP and explained our plans. We used a friends house as a postal box for a few weeks.

So you had applied for the DIP with your original/old address, and then the rest of the mortgage application with the friend's address? Or did you do the rest with your old address too but have mail redirected to your friend's?
