I still get letters 6 1/2 years on for the person that used to live in my house. I bought the house but previous to that it was rented and this person ran up a lot of debt then dissappeared. I have had bailiffs turn up just after I moved in but they took my work for it that I was not the person that they were looking for. I too have opened letters thinking they were for me only to find out that they were not - I just phone the companies concerned and explain. All letters are returned to sender - 'not at this address'. It has slowed down now but I still get letters even after 6 years

Well... it is worth forwarding their mail... if they've left a forwarding address it suggests that they might be responsible. Worth a try.
If you still get more mail, you just send it back. If you're a landlord, giving out the forwarding address without permission might very well constitute a breach of the Data Protection Act.
