I left school in 1987 & I have not been CONSTANTLY unemployed in fact I have only ever been without a job ONCE and that's now after being at my last job 5 years and being made redundant. I am so sure I wasn't talking to you there though but nice you are getting some digs in. Sad life you lead to think on a Saturday night all you can do is be a real !!!!!!!marybelle01 wrote: »Well constantly being unemployed is tiring. You should know that. Those who are employable don't have time to be tired.0 -

Junior accounts person? LOL Wrong! But hey you seem to know an awful lot about me. You sure you don't have another name on here?0 -

Don't believe I have but if you want to throw in with that lot feel free. You have mentioned several times that your job is accounts and you live in or around London just this week alone. And at the wages you have mentioned - that's junior.
But I can't be bothered arguing with you any more. You want to call employed people names because they work in recruitment agencies, be my guest. At least they are employed...0 -
So a low salary means someone is a junior?! Maybe it just means you work in a low paid industry and the company pay everyone a low salary.marybelle01 wrote: »Don't believe I have but if you want to throw in with that lot feel free. I could tell you I have an interview next week for a Purchase Ledger Supervisors role in a large hotel in London (1000 rooms) supervising one memeber of staff and you know what they are paying? £22.5k! Less than I was on at my last job be certainly NOT a junior role!

Can we stop the bickering guys? There really is no need to derail this. Take it up by PM eh?0

---not all of them, there have been a couple of helpful ones but most are rats!
They can be friendly when you first call the completely ignore you afterwards, no follow up phone calls to discuss! My CV is pretty good and has got me interviews with some good companies in the past so not sure why these guys aren't doing their jobs properly.
Since looking around properly this has only happened to me the once but the agency in question had their own little wheeze to spice it up. Only the candidates they thought of as dead certs were called to pre-register before going for the interview. Anyone else called to interview that hadn't pre-registered, were making up the numbers and had no chance of getting one of the multiple jobs unless there were no-shows but they still gave the no-hopers the same rubbish on the phone about "let us know how it went" and all this crap. Like a mug I did let them know, heard nothing since.
Any other job I would have expected not to hear and moved right along but I'm perfectly entitled to be hacked off if two people in a big firm call me up and flat-out lie. On the upside, it only cost me time not money and I know the scam for next time.
Thankfully I've also found some good agencies as well, so it's not all bad even if my applications haven't been successful, the communication was quick and honest.0 -

My sister works in HR and she hates them with a passion and never uses them.
I've been applying to jobs that specifically ask for my academic background and experience to give myself a fighting chance because not as many people have that but it's tough even in niche markets
I've been trying to find the same jobs direct with the employers by running a few searches online and have been succssful a couple of times in finding the actual company but the agency job specs are quite cryptic.
No actual question here, just venting! Although any advice would be great.
I myself are very careful if i have to rely upon these sharks,as if the jobs are there then you dont need one of these companies to apply on your behalf, the game they usually play is call you up, nice little chat and get consent to use your cv for a job application which at that moment in time most probably dosent exist. I will never use one again unless i relly have to.
I work in a specialist type sector and have used agencys for years on and off,the market is saturated with them and individuals looking for work, just a serious lack of employment is missing. Id look after yourself and add a data protection disclaimer that if they use your cv its only consent per 1 application until clearing all with you otherwise theyve ben known to send it out to 100s of companies so you end up getting 10 agencies all calling you about the same job.
Good luck in your search.0 -
In my opinion, agencies are a non-industry.
Companies, both big and small, should use Jobserve and the like to advertise jobs direct. Only £110 per job advert, much cheaper than using agencies.
One tip: If you see a job listed on Jobserve via an agency, and you have an inkling as to what company it may be for (given the job description and location), go direct to that companies web site to see if that job is listed on their vacancies page. Therefore bypassing the agency, so you can apply direct! Has worked for me. Saved that company their agency fee as well.0 -
I have been mainly working in Admin & Secretarial sector and can point out worst scammers in this industry and even an agency that was openly discriminatory towards me (just to give you a clear picture: I am degree educated EU born with British Citizenship, few years of UK investment admin experience + excel modelling skills).
Agency called Amanda Newell, has been calling me on a weekly basis offering mainly reception jobs, which I found pretty offensive and politely asked them to !!!!!! off.
One day they called me with, as they described " purely administrative position" & sent me for the job labeled as Investment Admin, while on the interview it turned out the job was a reception + kitchen cleaning duties!
And they even complained I was "too bold" during the interview!
Amanda Newell - Highest rank on Rough Employment Aide Board.
