Credit File-Ocean Finance

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong section to post this as I can’t find a section relating to credit files. Point me in the right direction if there is a forum on this.

In 2007 me and my girlfriend enquired online to Ocean Finance regarding a mortgage although we didn’t actually apply for one through them.

Currently on my Equifax report it shows a Financial Associate of my girlfriend and the source is Ocean Finance.

Should I have this on my credit file as we didn’t apply for a mortgage, we just enquired. We have had other mortgages since e.g. Santander but these don’t show on my credit file.

By having this on my credit file will it affect my credit rating?

Thank you inadvance for any help.

Malcolm

  • You should be checking all 3 credit files - the Santander Mortgage is likely to be with one of the other agencies.

Yes, having your girlfriend an as association affects your credit rating, especially if she has bad debt etc. And visa versa.

Thankyou for the reply and info MusicalLawyer.

I would be grateful if anyone could let me know if having 'Ocean Finance' on my credit report will affect my credit.

And should it be on there as we didn't apply for a mortgage.

    Thank you again.

I doubt it will cause a problem - unless they are notorious for lending only to high risk customers. But if you never made a formal application, there should be no entry on your files.

I think a small concern I would have is from your above post it would indicate you didn't take any money from them.

If it was just a search it should have dropped off after 12 months.

Personally I'd being a bit more digging
