Reduced my Elec Bill by 28% in Winter

Just had my first Electricity bill in since having solar panels fitted. The usage has dropped by 28% average for the 3 months (EDF give graphs against last year). This is from a 1.44 kw system in mid winter. Hopefully in summer the average saving will go well above 50-60 % as the solar comes into its element.:j

With a system that small, you must be using pretty much all of the output in mid winter. But in Summer, you will need to go for low wattage uses, i.e. use a travel kettle (or at most a 2.2kW one), consider fitting a 1 kW or even a 500W immersion heater element, and don't run two high power appliances at once if you can help it!

    Don't forget the awareness element.

Most people on here and elsewhere seem to find a reduction in demand greater than the amount of PV generation they are able to make use of.

It seems to be down to having a much better awareness of consumption (maybe we've got a little lazy over the years?) and cutting back on waste a bit.

My friend has had PV for nearly 2 years now, in the first year he had a backwards meter, so import should have gone down by the full generation amount, but it went down a further 10%, and I can honestly say he was already very aware of consumption, so we can all learn a bit more.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

I'm assuming you're in Norfolk, as are we. It will be interesting to compare how you're doing. We are awaiting our first elec. bill since we had our panels fitted in early Dec. Our system is 2 kw and yesterday we had a reading of 11.55 Kw. as it was a gorgeous day and looks like being the same today.

There was a lot of interest locally when we had ours fitted (I believe we were the first in our very large village) but since then they are popping up everywhere.
