Defaults - getting the date changed?

Hi all,
I'll try and keep this short.
Been in a dmp since Oct 2007 (had about £18,000 of debt).
Have paid religilously on time every single month.
Now owe £7000 (so getting there!)
Fully expected and accepted I would be given defaults as I had broken my contractual payments. Egg duly defaulted me in early 2008. But out of the others; lloyds OD defaulted me in may 2010, Lloyds CC in August 2011 and Lloyds loan also in 2010.
I understand they have defaulted me later so they can sell the debts on but I feel the default dates being 3 and 4 years after entereing the DMP (and therefore defaulting) is a bit unfair. If I'd never attempted to pay them anything they would have defaulted me or CCJ'd me back in 2007/early 2008 which would mean they would drop off my credit file in 2014. Instead they won't drop off until 2016 and 2017. So because I have been paying them every month (and not just a token amount) I am in a worse position than if I'd just stopped paying!
We want to move house in the next few years (I aim to clear my debts by end of this year) so will need to remortgage and this is going to cause me issues.
Does anyone know if LLoyds are allowed to add the defaults so much later than I actually defaulted.
Will I have any luck in getting them to change the dates of the defaults?
Thanks if you can help
btw I'm not asking for them to be removed (I understand they are there legitimately) but just the dates changed.

Thanks for that link - interesting reading.
Do you think I should contact the ICO first? I did contact Lloyds in 2010 when I noticed the defaults added but they never replied0 -
Complain in writing to Lloyds, sending signed for. if they don't reply after 8 weeks then complain to FOS. Quote what you need from the link and see what they say.:beer:0
