New job.. claim Tax refund?

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me with this one. I have quite fortunately managed to get a new job after being made redundant in November. It is quite a relief as the funds were beginning to run quite low. I start work on Monday and have a new employment contract to fill out.
The P45 I got from my old place of work, I was intending to send this along with a P50 which is to claim back overpaid tax for the year. However my new employment contract wants the P45 forms attached to it. I can understand why, particularly if this new job was taking place mid-financial year. But in my case, I'm pretty certain I won't begin receiving any pay until April payday. So I know I won't earn any more income for this financial year, hence why I was preparing to send off the P50.
Would my new place of work be able to work out my tax refund? I thought this was only possible if you started a new job not too long (like 4 weeks) after the old one? In my case there will be a 4 month gap and no more pay in the current financial year.

Send a photocopy of your P45 with the P50 to reclaim tax.
Tell your payroll officer you have sent that off and they don't need to calculate a refund for you if they were going to. Give them the proper P45.
(It might be worth checking with Payroll before sending the P50 off though - they might say it will calculate automatically. I'd be surprised.)0 -
You cannot claim yet. You can only claim after 5th April because you are now in paid employment. You can only claim before the end of the year if you are absolutely sure you will have no more income.
If you stuck one in now, what could happen is that you may be automatically refunded through your employer and would get a refund from HMRC so have to pay it back.0
