I'm not sure where to start

Hi,
I was helping someone may be able to help as I am sure either myself or my husband would be able to claim for PPI charges. We have both had so many credit cards and loans over the years that it's hard to believe we won't have had PPI applied to it even though it is something neither of us have known about previously.
The problem i have is that having had quite a lot of debt that has been paid off/transferred onto a different card etc, we don't have the details of who we have had credit with, what the account details, card numbers etc are and we don't have any of the paperwork to check if ppi has been included.
Could anyone please help and let me know where i should start in trying to identify if we have paid for ppi on any of our debts? Is there a central place i can check this or would it just be easier to instruct one of the many companies to look into it for us?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Amy

Firstly you need a sound reason for a mis-sale. Saying you didn't know about it won't really cut it if you received statements clearly showing PPI or if records show you ticked the box. Front loaded PPI on loans or PPI added without your consent would be a better example of a mis-sale. There are others.
To get your details you need to contact each of the companies you had credit with. If you really don't know which companies you've dealt with at all (!) then to stop it being a needle in a haystack situation you might want to get a credit report from Experian which should at least list some of the companies and then start with them - you'd need to get a report for each of you, hopefully you can sign up for a free trial to get the info. You could then ring each bank and ask if you had PPI but that may lead nowhere if you really don't have any details. Alternatively you can send an SAR with £10 to each of the companies and request copies of all records held and take it from there. Anything over 6 years old you may or may not get any records back.
Don't use a claims company.0
