Repair TV or sell

Hi I have aThorn TV (probably 5-6 year old). We have a problem with this tv it goes blank after a while (5-10 minutes depends on his mood). We then have to switch off the power and wait for atleast 5 minutes. this is irritating.
Please suggest me what to do?
1) get it to a shop and get it repaired (it may cost 50- 60 quid atleast I guess)
2) sell it to some shope. it will work for atleast couple of minutes and the shop can give me some money.(and can you recommend some shops)
3)just give it to a freecycler and take a hit on pocket. if this is the case then where I should go for a decent tely (25 inch +) under 40 pound
Early reply much apericiated
Cheers

I have just freecycled a TV which wasnt working properly. I decided that the cost of repair combined with the fact that something else could go wrong with it a short time later, and also that a new television can be purchased relatively cheaply meant that freecycle seemed the way to go for me.Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0

i recently was in teh similar position, unlike you however i had a decent sony tv. a new one cost a few hundred pounds. Its a cracking tv however it is several years old. I am in the market for a new one, however i had yet to see a big lcd tv that shows a good tv picture as my current sony. I dont mean HD i mean terrestrial.
in teh end i paid £50 to have it repaired. since i have found i could have paid £30 from another repairman0 -
how to find a decent cheap repairman though?0

true, i just ask around a few friends.
mine was a simple repair, sounds like yours is too though, a heat problem or at least a breakdown of a component due to heat.
i know i was ripped off for the work he did, but at the time i didnt know about the other guy.
The one i used seemed to just charge £50 for the smaller problems. My mate got charge £50 too. His just kept turning off after 5 - 10mins, hitachi tv.0 -
Decide how long you are going to keep the TV for if you had it fixed or maybe how long you think it will last for.Hoping this year is better than the last.
