Religious / Church Query

This isn't strictly a Money Saving Query - but I hope it's still okay to post.

Does anyone know whether or not you can receive Holy Communion in either a Church of England / Scotland or a Catholic Church. For example if you made your Holy Communion in a Catholic Church, can you then take Holy Communion in a Church of England Church .... or if you made your Confirmation in a Church of England Church, can you take Holy Communion in a Catholic Church?

Not unless it's changed since my day!

CofE/S churches will bless RC at the altar rail, when the confirmed CofE/S go up for Communion - and I'm sure I received a blessing at the same time at a RC church.

As far as I know when you are confirmed you are confirming your faith so no, you can't switch communions without switching faiths & being confirmed into the new one.

There is no holy communion in the CoS. Just a plain communion!

Edit, that sounded silly.... I mean it's just like a special service once in a while. Hope that makes sense?

I would only take communion in a Catholic church if I was in a State of Grace. I would attend a service somewhere else for a wedding or something but never do more than attend.

AFAIK you can take Communion in any C of E Church providing you are a Comminicant member of your own church.

You can't take it in a Catholic Church unless you are a Catholic.

I have always taken Communion in our local C of E church when I've attended, although I am not C of E. (They do know that I'm not C of E). In the Catholic Church here in the village, I go up for a blessing (I am not Catholic either).

Your faith is CHRISTIAN. What you are doing at Confirmation is confirming your Denomination.

I have not been confirmed, but take Communion in a C of E church because I am a communicant member of my own Christian church. In our parish church in England ther is a notice on the dooor telling people this.

Catholics however, say you must be a Catholic.

At the church we go to (a free church) all who love God and accept Jesus as their saviour are invited to take communion. Children are also allowed to take communion as long as they behave in a respectful manner. There is however a difference between Holy Communion and Mass, which is one of the reasons why the Protestant faith began after people left the Roman Catholic church. In a protestant church the Holy Communion commemorates the sacrifice of Christ dying on the cross and the wine and bread are symbolic or representative of his blood and body, but in a Catholic church it is believed that the wine and bread turn literally into the blood and body of Christ. This is why people from other Protestant denominations are not allowed to take communion in a Catholic Church, because their denomination does not agree with the Catholic Church's teaching on this point.

The technical terms for these two opinions are consubstantiation (what the Protestant churches believe) and transubstantiation (what the Catholic church believes). So even though the words the Priest speaks may sound similar 'The body of Christ, The blood of Christ' they envoke different interpretations. This is one of the major reasons historically, why the Protestant Churches have not been accepted by the Catholic church.
