Advice re 16yr old college/voluntary work entitlement?

Hi all, my son is leaving school soon and has currently been doing a level 2 course (1 day a week for the last 2 years) My question is- The next stage is level 3 which is a one day a week course at college and 3 days voluntary work as part of the course, would he be entitled to any financial help? He would probably be doing around 35 hours over these days and has assignments to do aswell, obviously if he can get an apprenticeship I know he won't get any help and I will loose my child benefit and tax credits but if he can't get an apprenticeship then he has to work voluntary to be able to do the course as the level 3 can't be done unless they are working.
Any help appreciated
Thanks:)

  • Best to speak to the Student Services team at the college, they will have links to Next Step & Connexions or may have the answers themselves.

Thanks, I'm going to ask child benefit if I'll still be entitled and will speak to the college. We had a meeting the other night with his careers advisor but he didn't know.
